Sysout-Syslog Automation and Viewing

Sysout - Syslog Automation & Viewing OS390, z/OS

$AVRS completely automates the accumulation, viewing archival and retrieval of JCL, SYSOUT, SYSLOG, JOBLOG and other critical JES output (OS390, zOS). $AVRS is an output management tool that will save an installation up to 90% of the human and machine resources presently allocated for these tasks. By allowing users to access system information online rather than printing it, $AVRS provides significant savings in printer and paper costs. In addition, $AVRS significantly reduces the personnel and system resources required to review failed jobs and JCL errors.

Syslog

The $AVRS output management system reduces paper costs by allowing users to browse any SYSOUT or SYSLOG online and print only the information required. $AVRS eliminates the need to print entire jobs by allowing users to print select pages, or lines from those pages.

$AVRS reduces printer costs through its online viewing feature, alleviating printing overload and reducing hardware requirements. Print reduction means less downtime and reduced maintenance costs due to fewer printer breakdowns.

$AVRS increases efficiency by compressing all online data for efficient use of DASD space. The fully compressed and self-optimizing VSAM database structure dynamically reuses space to provide optimum efficiency and reduce system and DASD resource consumption. $AVRS output management also increases personnel efficiency by performing JCL and other error checking for each job it accumulates. This eliminates the need for data control clerks to manually review printed output to identify failed jobs.

Syslog Server

With $AVRS output management solutions, you can reduce or eliminate the use of MICROFICHE by storing output to tape, optical disk or DASD, rather than using expensive, cumbersome microfiche. $AVRS archive system will greatly reduce, if not eliminate, your microfiche budget, and the output is easily restored via the Online Selective Restore Facility.

$AVRS, the Sysout Accumulation Viewing and Retrieval System, is a powerful operations and output management package designed to significantly reduce the personnel and system resources required to handle Sysout, Syslog and JES datasets. $AVRS accumulates Sysout and Syslog to a dynamically reusable VSAM database. The $AVRS Extended Database Capacity - holds up to 1 terabyte of information online. $AVRS archives work and maintains an historical index of archived jobs in its database for up to 27 years. $AVRS is a collection of programs that allows you to view, manipulate, and report on sysout accumulated work.

Online Interfaces

The $AVRS Online Interfaces provide output management solutions and a comprehensive approach to the reviewing of archived Sysout and Syslog. Immediate access to data is available through batch or fullscreen reentrant interfaces, including native TSO, TSO SPF/ISPF, or ROSCOE ETSO. Online access to $AVRS is also available through VCSI, the VTAM Common System Interface. Each interface presents several similar display and command panels which are used to review and display selected elements and files in the $AVRS database.

The Online Interfaces can be used to perform the following functions:
  • Display all work, which meets the selection criteria.
  • Review the completion status of the selected work.
  • Select a desired file for a more detailed review.
  • Browse through any selected file.
  • Browse through an entire JOB's output as one logical file.
  • Find the first, last, any or all text strings within a file/JOB.
  • Print any work with custom banner pages and optionally modify print attributes.
  • Output work to a DASD dataset or to a PDS member.
  • Delete work from the $AVRS database, if security permits.
  • Display the archive or microfiche history.
  • Display the Archive Status Report.
  • Access the Microfiche Online Index.
  • Modify the PF keys for individual preference.
  • Review accumulated Syslogs.
  • Display a comprehensive HELP facility.
  • Selectively request the restore of work from $AVRS archive files.
  • Request the printing of work from $AVRS archive files.
  • Persistent panel variables for non-ISPF interfaces utilizing UPFL (included with product).
  • Full support for z/OS 7 digit job number
  • Support for JES2 and JES3 shops
$AVRS provides an extensive Help and Tutorial Facility in association with the Online Interfaces. The Tutorial offers comprehensive explanations of the screens, while specific information relevant to the area of current use is provided through Help.

The Information Feature associated with the Terminal Interface provides formatted summary information about executed jobs, JCL errors and system or user messages are presented concisely. This provides the user with a fast, convenient and easy way of reviewing problem jobs, with their errors and associated messages.

The Browse Feature associated with the Terminal Interface provides a view of all output lines from work currently in the $AVRS database. Data manipulation within browse can be performed through the utilization of a variety of commands.

The Annotation and Acknowledgment Feature allows users to add commentary and other information to be associated with a job's output, and to specify an acknowledgment code which is listed as part of each jobs directory entry.

Direct VSAM browsing is utilized, eliminating the intermediate sequential file for browse functions. This results in faster and more efficient browsing.
